HAWICK MSP John Lamont is this morning leading the tributes to Councillor Zandra Elliot who passed away yesterday (Saturday) in Edinburgh’s Royal Infirmary.
Mrs Elliot, who was first elected to Scottish Borders Council in 2007, had “served the town admirably over the years”, said Mr Lamont.
He continued: “Anyone who knows or has met Zandra would tell you not only of her innate kindness but also of her passion for Hawick. She was a proud and passionate ambassador for the town.
“Her contribution to the Borders has been immense and there can be no doubt that we have lost one of our most dedicated public servants.”
Mr Lamont said Mrs Elliot had been a tremendous support to him in his work as the local MSP and a good source of invaluable advice. He would miss her greatly.
“My thoughts and prayers are with her family at this difficult time,” he added.
As well as her time on SBC, she previously served as chair of the town’s community council and three terms as honorary provost.
