Moore talks up textiles at Chanel fashion show

HAWICK MP Michael Moore pushed the importance of the textiles industry at Chanel’s glittering fashion show this week.

The Secretary of State for Scotland was among an invited audience of around 400 who attended the show at Linlithgow Palace. It comes just weeks after the French fashion giants agreed a deal to take over Barrie Knitwear.

Mr Moore said: “I was pleased to be able to attend the event following the great news recently that Barrie has been bought by Chanel.

“Here in the Borders, we are renowned for our textile industry so it comes as no surprise that one of the world’s best known brands has given one of our local firms this vote of confidence.

“It was good to see a cross-section of Borders firms represented at the event with Scottish-inspired design and knitwear playing a big part in the show.

“During the evening, I also had the opportunity to discuss with Tessa Hartmann, founder of the Scottish Fashion Awards, how we can work together to support the industry in Scotland.”
