Mill's Burns tartan to raise cash for museum
JOHNSTONS of Elgin has created a bespoke tartan to celebrate the 250th anniversary of Robert Burns, and raise money for a new museum celebrating his life.
The luxury knitwear firm has created a collection of two scarves and a travel rug in Anniversary Check tartan, designed to incorporate colours associated with the Bard's most famous poems – although no manufacturing will take place at the Mansfield Road mill.
Speaking to the Hawick News this week, the firm's divisonal sales director Alastair Macdonald explained that the tartan, below, would be made at the company's headquarters in Elgin and that "each garment truly represents a little piece of Scottish history whilst keeping a fashion-forward focus on this season's trends".
A 1 donation from each piece sold will go towards the National Trust for Scotland's bid to raise the final 3.8million required for its new 21million new Robert Burns Birthplace Museum in Ayrshire.
