Let there be light: £5M plan unveiled

SCOTTISH Borders Council is to invest £5million in replacing all street lights in the region.

The local authority will be using LED energy-saving lights instead.

Head of finance David Robertson said: “What we are proposing is a significant investment from our capital programme to replace the street lighting and provide a more cost-effective service, while also reducing our carbon usage into the bargain.”

It is estimated that the work will be ‘paid back’ to the council in terms of savings within eight years.
