Kirking at Trinity

CORNET Ross Nichol kicked off Common-Riding week in traditional fashion as he led a large gathering to the official Kirking ceremony.

The 22-year-old and the rest of the Big Four, dressed immaculately in their morning suits and tile hats, set off from the town hall for the customary walk along the High Street to Trinity Church where the service took place.

This year’s principals were joined by a long line of ex-Cornets and ex-Acting Fathers as well as supporters more akin to following on horseback.

The Lasses, dressed beautifully in their Sunday best, then joined the four Principals, before being cheered along the High Street on their way to the Cornet’s Lass’s lunch at the rugby club, followed by the wreath laying at Hornshole.
