Ill wind blows over turbine site proposal

A HEATED exchange over plans for a wind farm between Williestruther Loch and Acreknowe Reservoir has led to calls for a public meeting to discuss the issue.

Community councillor Eric Hope, who clashed with fellow member Andy Maybury at Tuesday night's monthly meeting, said: "The Common Good Land belongs to the folk of Hawick and no-one else.

"I am not against wind farms at all, but I am against a 'Green' group coming into Hawick and trying to sneak in through the back door to use our Common Good Land, and before you know it it's a done deal."

Mr Maybury has confirmed that A Greener Hawick will organise a public meeting, but says this will only be after a feasibility study of the site has been conducted.

"A Greener Hawick will organise a public meeting once we have the answers to the questions that people are asking," he said.
