A MEAT thief stole because he was “very hungry”.
Artur Maciaga told police he had no money and was “hungry, very hungry.”
The 28-year-old, of Fairhurst Drive, admitted stealing £4 worth of meat at the town’s Morrisons supermarket on September 28.
Prosecutor Andrew Richardson told Jedburgh Sheriff Court that staff had been watching the accused as he was a “known thief”.
“He was very candid with police,” added defence solicitor Ross Dow.
“He said he had no money and put the beef into his rucksack.
“He has a drink problem and spends most of his money on that,” added Mr Dow.
Sentence was deferred until November 15 for reports.
