Firm leaves street in dark for two weeks

RESIDENTS of a housing estate maintained by a developer have hit out at a York-based company for leaving them without adequate street lighting for two weeks.

Householders in Paterson Gardens were left in the dark after Persimmon Homes failed to make repairs to 12 of the street’s 15 lampposts.

Councillor Davie Paterson persuaded the council’s lighting engineer Bill Baird to fix the minor fault, even though Persimmon still hold responsibility for the site while it remains incomplete.

Resident Garry Douglas , who has lived on the street almost since it was built six years ago, said: “I want Persimmon to be compensating SBC for doing this work. To be without lighting for two weeks is absolutely appalling. After their houses are sold, they’re not bothered.

“I would like to thank Councillor Paterson, who is an absolute workhorse in situations like this.”
