Drug dealer has sentence deferred

A drug dealer was stopped in a taxi and found with heroin with a street value of up to £920.

Gordon Donald, 35, described as a prisoner in Edinburgh, was released on bail to an address in Renwick Terrace, for reports, until July 6.

He appeared from custody at Jedburgh Sheriff Court and admitted being concerned in the supply of diamorphine in Rosebank Road between February 23 and March 3.

Depute fiscal Ann MacNeill told how police responded to a 999 call reporting an ongoing disturbance at a house in Renwick Terrace, but found nothing happening when they arrived.

“They had parked a short distance away and were walking to the address when they saw a taxi leaving.

“It pulled up in Rosebank Road and the accused and another were seen in the back,” explained Ms MacNeill.

“Police approached and asked the two passengers to get out and the accused seemed to be trying to take something from his pocket and conceal it,” continued Ms MacNeill.

He was searched and police found a bag of brown powder and there was a set of scales on the back seat of the taxi, where he had been sitting.

“They also seized two mobile phones and £103.50 in cash.

“The brown substance was confirmed to be 9gms of diamorphine, with a wholesale value of approximately £300, and worth up to £920 on the black market, depending on how it was split,” added Ms MacNeill.

The mobile phones were analysed and had messages which appeared to relate to drug dealing.

Solicitor Ed Hulme, defending, said his client had “a record of long-term drug abuse”.

“He accepts he was concerned in supply, as part of the drug scene, but there was never any financial gain,” said Mr Hulme. “He was helping others.”

Sheriff Donald Corke deferred sentence for reports, and granted bail.
