Death of respected former doctor

Townsfolk were saddened to learn of the sudden death on Tuesday of a much-respected former doctor, D. W. Cameron, aged 85, who lived at Tanlaw, Braid Road.

Bill, to his family and friends, gained his medical degree at Edinburgh University. In 1958, he was selected from 87 applicants and became Dr Milne’s partner in the North Bridge Street practice and served generations of Teries before retiring in 1988.

Dr Cameron was awarded the MBE in 1987 for services to the medical profession and he and his wife Helen celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary last month.

The couple have a son Alan, daughter-in-law Phil, daughter Morna and son-in-law Duncan, as well as daughter Pauline and son-in-law Duncan and six grandchildren.

Dr Cameron’s funeral will take place at noon on Tuesday, April 29, at the Borders Crematorium in Melrose. Family flowers only and a collection will be held for the Borders branch of the MS Society.
