Call for a caravan park in Hawick

COUNCILLORS are pursuing a suggestion from local resident Jamie Batten to investigate the possibility of a caravan park on land at Galalaw.

During the open questions section of Teviot and Liddesdale Area Committee last week, Mr Batten told councillors that in the early 1990s the site had been identified by Roxburgh District Council as a possible caravan park, but had not been supported by Scottish Borders Enterprise at that time.

Mr Batten highlighted a lack of hotels in Hawick and said a park would attract visitors and boost tourism, and after previously raising the issue last month, told councillors that "actions speak louder than words". Committee chairman Jock Houston confirmed that his suggestion was "in the system" and had been passed to the relevant SBC official.
