Burnfoot's big switch-on

CHRISTMAS will officially begin in Burnfoot this afternoon with the switching on of the lights.

And the Community Futures group is again inviting residents to join in its 'Brightening up Burnfoot' initiative, which for the second year will illuminate Kenilworth Avenue.

The Christmas lights will be switched on at 4pm by Provost Zandra Elliot, however, the fun is due to start at the shops and health flat from 3pm onwards, with the pupils – fancy dress welcome – walking along behind Santa in his sleigh. There will also be singing by the school choir.

Community Futures chairperson Sharon Halfpenny said: "Last year, we had 200 people turn out for the switch-on which took us by surprise, so this year we are all ready for what should be a fun-filled few hours."

There will also be a raffle with excellent prizes, while Santa will be handing out small goodie bags to the children.
