Burnfoot couple's £250,000 windfall
BURNFOOT couple Gerry and Nikki Donaldson are celebrating after scooping £250,000 with a National Lottery scratchcard.
Nikki, who bought the lucky ticket at the Kenilworth Avenue Co-op, said her "hands were shaking" when she signed for the cheque to secure the winning prize.
Gerry announced the news on social networking site Facebook by posting a comment onto his profile which read: "ty (thank you] folks YEEEEEE HAAAAAA, 250,000."
And the lucky couple have had the massive windfall deposited into their bank account. Although 39-year-old Gerry – a self-confessed cannabis smoker who says he relies on it for pain relief – said he "still couldn't believe it".
He has been unemployed for the past 10 years following an injury on a building site.
A string of congratulatory messages have been left on Facebook next to a photograph of the lucky scratchcard.
Paul Nelson wrote "Well done mate." Angela Tait said: "Lucky you, well done." Jane McWatters commented: "Well done Gerry, enjoy it." Kevin Ford said: "Fantastic mate, enjoy." Jackie Caldwell added: "Well done to the both of you." And Tina McCrudden Herbert wrote: "Well done from the both of us".
