April opening date for new Wetherspoon’s pub

THE opening date for the new Wetherspoon’s pub, to be situated on Bourtree Place, has been put back until the middle of April.

It had been hoped that the national food and drink chain would be trading in the town by the end of next month.

However, a spokesperson for Wetherspoon’s confirmed this week that, due to the need to obtain a Scottish building warrant, work has had to be delayed.

The warrant is an integral part of the building process and work can only begin on the site once this has been approved.

The spokesperson said: “Wetherspoon has submitted all the relevant details and is waiting to hear back from the authority in the next week or so.”

Should the warrant be granted, which it is hoped will be the case, building work is scheduled to start on the new pub – to be called The Bourtree – on January 24.

It is anticipated that the million pound development in the former Conservative Club premises will create up to 60 new jobs.
