Appeal launched after pharmacy drugs theft
POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a large quantity of drugs was stolen from the pharmacy at Teviot Medical Practice.
Around 200 packs of medication were taken during the raid which is believed to have happened some time between Saturday night and Monday morning.
Dihydrocodeine, Diazepam, Codeine Phosphate, Zopiclone, Lorazapam, Nitrazepam and Cionazepam were among the items taken.
A police spokesman told the Hawick News this week: “Some of these tablets are very high-strength and could have serious health implications if taken by anyone other than the person they’re prescribed to.
“While we are following a positive line of inquiry in terms of tracing the suspect, we would encourage anyone who is offered or comes across this medication to hand it in to a police station or pharmacy as a matter of urgency.
“In addition, we are appealing for anyone who may have been aware of suspicious activity in the area of Teviot Road at the weekend to get in touch on 0131 311 3131.”
Dr Jonathan Kirk, clinical chair for primary and community services, echoed the sentiments about how dangerous the drugs could be and stressed every effort was being made to recover them safely.
He said: “We can confirm that there was a break-in at the Teviot Medical Practice last weekend. We are currently assisting Lothian and Borders Police with their investigation into the incident.”
