Accident fears over ‘caved in’ stretch of road at Bucklands
SERIOUS safety concerns have been raised over a piece of road that has collapsed on the outskirts of the town.
Councillor Stuart Marshall (pictured) reported this week the 40-metre area at Bucklands on the edge of Burnfoot has fallen into a dangerous condition.
And he has demanded Scottish Borders Council address the problem as a matter of urgency. He said: “While I fully understand that this road is not deemed as a priority route, it is however a vital link for many Burnfoot residents who wish to access the main A698 Denholm road.
“It’s in a shocking state, especially near the Bucklands entrance where the road surface has completely caved in.
“I fear that because motorists may be tempted to cross over onto the other side of the carriageway to avoid the hazardous surface, that an accident might just be waiting to happen .”
Alistair Finnie, SBC area neighbourhood manager, said: “We try to make pot holes safe as soon as possible.”
It was agreed the road would be inspected and included in future works.
