HAWICK MSP John Lamont has visited the Royal Mail’s delivery office at St George’s Lane to wish them luck ahead of the busy Christmas period.
John was given a tour by office manager Mary Rettie, who showed him the efforts being made to ensure that all cards and parcels are delivered before Christmas.
He said: “It was an honour to meet all of the men and women who will be working so hard over the coming weeks to ensure that all of our mail is delivered.
“The Royal Mail do a fantastic job every year to get as many letters, cards and parcels delivered on time in spite of the adverse weather, and it was great to be able to thank them in person.
“I hope that those living in and around Hawick take the time to thank their postie if they get a chance to. While we look forward to relaxing over the holiday period, many of them will be rushed off of their feet and I am sure any thanks they get will be greatly appreciated.”
Last year the Royal Mail delivered two billion letters, greeting cards and parcels to over 29 million addresses in time for Christmas Day.
Mrs Rettie added: “Christmas is the busiest time of year for Royal Mail. Our people really do pull out all the stops throughout the year to ensure mail is delivered quickly, but even more so over the busy festive period.
“As usual, we’d like to remind our customers to post early so that friends and family have longer to enjoy their Christmas greetings.”
