Lamont exits Tory leadership race and commits to Hawick

HAWICK MSP John Lamont has announced that he will not be standing for the leadership of the Scottish Conservative Party.

The news follows speculation over potential candidates for the role ahead of the departure of Annabel Goldie, but the local Tory says he will not throw his hat into the ring. “I have been overwhelmed by party colleagues and people urging me to put my name forward”, he commented. “However, after a great deal of thought, I have decided that I will not. With any ministerial or leadership role, it undoubtedly takes time away from work in the constituency and I wasn’t prepared to make that sacrifice. My constituency will always come first.”
