Kebab shop owner gets warning over late licence

A HAWICK kebab outlet will be allowed to continue weekend trading until 2.30am.

But Scottish Borders Council’s Civic Government Licensing Committee, which met on Friday in Galashiels, issued a warning to the owner of Istanbul Fast Foods of 7 Oliver Place that further breaches of this deadline would not be tolerated.

The committee considered a report from police, outlining several incidents when food has been sold beyond 2.30am, in breach of the establishment’s late hours catering licence. There was also reference to the amount of litter generated around the premises.

However, members heard that the owner had submitted a policy statement with an assurance that all his staff were aware of, and would rigorously enforce, the permitted trading hours. The committed voted 6-4 not to suspend the licence.
