Local knitwear manufacturer Johnstons of Elgin has opened a brand new flagship store in London’s New Bond Street.

Set over five levels, the 230sq metre shop is situated in the heart of Mayfair.

The store houses retail space on the ground and basement levels with dedicated wholesale and showroom areas on the upper levels.

The store has been designed with Johnstons of Elgin’s core values and family heritage at its heart, says the firm.

Retail managing director George McNeil said: “We’re thrilled to be celebrating the opening of our first flagship store, and look forward to welcoming our customers to New Bond Street.”

The most iconic feature in the new store is the herringbone-patterned runner, which has been specially designed and woven in Elgin and runs the full 12-metre length of the store, providing a central stage for the display of the accessories line. The runner then flows through to the front of the store draping down through an aperture in the floor by the high front windows. This design feature allows customers a clear view into the basement and an invitation to discover more downstairs.

Pictured below is Terry Colwill who won Johnstons employee of the year award, and speaking to the Hawick News this week, managing director Nick Bannerman said: “Terry has only been with us for a few months but his work ethic is fabulous, he has time for everyone he meets in the factory, too, and is always happy – a great combination! Terry reflects the great spirit in Johnstons at the minute as witnessed by the superb teamwork recently to battle the flood waters in Mansfield Road and keep the factory safe.”

Mr Bannerman added: “In addition we handed out £50 Morrisons vouchers to all staff in recognition of all their hard work during 2015 that has made Johnstons so successful, including taking over a beautiful store in Nantucket (USA), gaining ISO 9001 Quality Assurance Standard accreditation plus Investors in Young People award, launching our school’s interaction programme, opening in New Bond Street and achieving a 99% “OTIF” – on time in full delivery measurement to our customers – which is a remarkable achievement in textiles.”
