ENTERING his first ever competition had a silver lining for James Pringle.
The popular High Street butcher was one of just three from the Borders who received a silver award at the inaugural White Pudding Evaluation in rural Aberdeenshire.
Puddings from all over the country – 62 entries in total – were judged by food industry experts, the ladies of the Aberdeenshire SWRI and other local food enthusiasts in the Scottish Craft Butchers-organised competition.
Delighted with the accolade for his delicious oatmeal-based favourite, James told the Hawick News this week: “We’re absolutely thrilled to have won a silver award in what was our first competition.
“It’s a very basic product but a very tasty product. Everything we make is from family recipes and this one goes back to my great-grandfather away back in 1902.”
It is the first year the Hawick butchers has been a member of the Scottish Federation of Meat Traders’ Association and been allowed to compete.
And James (pictured) is looking forward to more success. He added: “We’ll definitely be entering more recipes in the future.”
