SENTENCE on a biology teacher who was found with more than 1,300 indecent images of children on his home computer has been further delayed by six weeks.
A proof in mitigation hearing was due to take place at Jedburgh Sheriff Court into the case of 61-year-old Andrew Beattie (pictured) who also admitted indecently assaulting two former pupils in the 1990s.
But a psychologist who was to give evidence on a risk assessment report for the defence was ill and unable to attend. Beattie – a teacher at Selkirk High School for 30 years – pleaded guilty to having the indecent images at his home in Hawick on May 14 last year. He also admitted indecently assaulting a 14-year-old boy while working as a teacher at the school between April and August 1991 and also performing a sex act on a 15-year-old male pupil between April 1995 and May 1996.
Beattie’s bail was continued until November 18 and his name remains on the sex offenders’ register.
