MORE than 400 people, including school pupils and members of community organisations, will parade through the town tomorrow to ring in the festive season.

Floats and walking groups will proceed from Mart Street to the Common Haugh as part of the Christmas Parade. The procession will begin at 4pm and end in the car park shortly before 5pm.

Marion Short, chair of Hawick Community Council, said: “I am grateful for the response, with more than 400 people to be involved in the parade, including four primary schools, and a wide variety of entries, including floats and walking groups.”

Mrs Short expressed her gratitude to local supermarkets who had allowed the community council to stage on their premises fund-raising activities in aid of the town’s Christmas lights.

“We held a successful raffle at both Sainsbury’s in October and Morrisons in November, raising just over £1000 towards the Christmas lights appeal.”

The draw for the raffles will be made on December 3.
