A NEWLY-LAUNCHED safety and security initiative is being rolled out in Hawick on Thursday.
Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and Police Scotland are jointly hosting the free event, which is aimed at providing advice and guidance to local retail outlets and small businesses.
Fire service representatives will outline measures to prevent unwanted fire alarm signals, which will help to minimise the effects of unwanted alarm calls on their service and help prevent unnecessary costs to business owners.
The police will give an insight into retail crime trends and prevention techniques which can be used by local firms.
Graham Bell, regional branch chairman of the Federation of Small Businesses, told the Hawick News: “With largely voluntary fire crews in the Scottish Borders, this is a great expense to us all, as well as risking diverting crews from genuine emergencies.
“All of us need to be vigilant about crime in our enterprises, whether the risk is theft, intimidation of staff, fraud or any other misdemeanour.
“This free event is designed to help the emergency services help us.”
The Hawick info session is being held at the fire station between 11am and 12.30pm.
Place can be reserved by contacting firstname.lastname@example.org or Graham Bell on 01890 88 2448.
