Two Hawick farmers have been presented with long-service awards by the Duke of Roxburghe on behalf of the Border Union Agricultural Society (BUAS).

David Mactaggart from Ormiston and Victor Brown from Adderston Shiels
received certificates and medals in recognition of 30 years of service to the same farm or employer.

Mr Mactaggart, 67, has spent 32 years working for the Vestey family on Ormiston Farm with his wife Mary, and farming has always been in his blood.

He said: “I’m originally from Dundee and my father and grandfather way back, both worked in agriculture.

“My three sons have also gone into agriculture across the country, so the tradition has kept on going.

“I love my job and have no desire to retire any time soon. When you do something you love like I do, it barely feels like work.”

Victor, 48, was the second Hawick recipient and has worked for John Davidson & Son for nearly 32 years at Adderston Shiels.

He said: “The awards ceremony was absolutely brilliant.

“I took my wife, mum and dad with me; it was a very proud moment.

“It really meant a lot to me and to them that I was rewarded in this way.”
