THE Hawick in Bloom committee’s efforts to improve the town centre are being destroyed by hooligans.
It was revealed at a meeting of Hawick Community Council on Tuesday night that the sub-committee’s small band of volunteers, who give up their time to fill and maintain planters, are battling against constant vandalism.
Spokesperson Isobel Scott said: “We are plagued by vandalism at the Horse. It used to be at weekends, but it’s been happening on a Monday and Tuesday, and the plants in our square boxes are being ruined.
“It is extremely irritating to those who give up their time to make the town look less drab.”
Despite the damage it was heard that the committee is planning to continue developing planters on the High Street, which will also bear small plaques engraved with Hawick Community Council.
