Foundation aids disability sports role

ALAN Oliver has been appointed the region’s sports development officer for disability.

Originally from Alloa, Alan previously worked for Badminton Scotland and will focus on coordinating, implementing and facilitating opportunities for the participation in sport and physical activities for individuals with a disability living in the Borders.

The appointment is for an initial one year-period and is a joint funded venture between Borders Sport and Leisure Trust (BSLT), Scottish Borders Disability Sports Group (SBDSG) and the Bill McLaren Foundation.

Brian Renwick. Bill McLaren Foundation grants director, told the Hawick News: “One of our objectives as a charity is to provide sporting opportunities for young people and we are really excited to provide Alan with the opportunity to do this for disabled youngsters in the Borders.”
