MEMBERS of the Burnfoot community are being invited to a public consultation evening where ambitious plans to transform the former Roadhouse pub will be discussed.
Burnfoot Community Futures has been investigating the options for creating a community ‘hub’ within the estate. And their plans will be revealed next Wednesday in the community school at 6.30pm.
A BCF spokesperson told the Hawick News: “The Hub would provide services such as a community café, community garden, a childcare facility, community health facility, progressive care/social centre for the elderly, rental space for various agencies and a community events/function room.”
A full options appraisal and viability study has recently been completed to investigate potential sites and the financial feasibility of the project.
And the conversion of the former Roadhouse pub, which has been boarded up and on the market for four years, was identified as the best option.
The BCF spokesperson added: “The building is close to local shops and services and it is only a short walk from the school.
“In its present state it gives a neglected feeling to the area.
“The potential acquisition and conversion of the Roadhouse will be an important and exciting project that will benefit the community of Burnfoot.
“All members of the community are encouraged to pop in so that they can give their views and ideas for the project.”
Burnfoot Community Futures is a charitable company that operates within the geographical area of Burnfoot and was set up for the improvement and development of the estate.
