CONCERNS Have been raised over the sale of nose-in car parking spaces outside the Common Haugh.
Hawick Community Council highlighted the issue following the erection of a ‘For Sale’ sign advertising site/car parking at the Victoria Road location, believed to be Hawick Common Good land – but investigations have revealed it is owned by the Co-Op.
It was heard this week that officials have established that the land was bought in November 2006, although there is no further information on who it was acquired from. Community Councillor Andrew Farquhar stated: “I can’t understand why the council is lying down to this, they should bill the owners for maintenance all these years.”
Councillor Stuart Marshall commented: “The signage is also attracting much debate, but I have been assured that SBC will notify the selling agents to have it removed as soon as possible.”
