THE former registry office on the High Street will be the first empty premises to be fitted with an attractive ‘shop jacket’.

The initiative, which is being undertaken by local group Future Hawick, will see the window filled with specially-designed panels, which creates a 3D illusion of a shop.

Speaking at a meeting of Hawick Community Council, Evelyn Sangster, who sits on both committees, said: “Our plans with the company Shopjacket are progressing well, with the registry office due to be fitted with images of chandeliers.”

Another two empty shops are also earmarked for transformation.
