Following two years of terrible weather, the decision was taken earlier this year to cancel Hawick Summer Festival’s annual Party on the Pitch event – and in its place will be a special music evening in the bowls arena at Teviotdale Leisure Centre.

Two of Hawick’s top bands – The Stevie T Band and PYRE – will share the stage on Saturday, August 24, along with support vocalists Laurie Coburn, Sally Thomas and Charlie Marshall.

Announcing the event, Hawick Summer Festival chairman Gerry Monaghan said: “It was always a difficult decision to cancel Party on the Pitch, but given the unpredictability of the British weather we didn’t have a great deal of choice.

“We feel the alternative will really appeal to Hawick music fans and visitors alike. We have two hugely popular Hawick bands that are set to rock the new venue. The bowls arena at Teviotdale Leisure Centre is a fabulous venue and I know that the Stevie T Band were a huge hit when they performed there earlier in the year.

“Adding PYRE to the line-up along with some emerging talent is also massively exciting.”

With only 500 tickets up-for-grabs the scramble is now on for the briefs (£6), which are available from Teviotdale Leisure Centre, Dobbie & Michie, The Fireplace and Brydon’s Café.

The annual summer festival runs from Saturday-Sunday, August 17-24, and launches with a new-look Flower Princess Party Day.
