Escape volunteer awards

Almost 50 of the town’s young volunteers will be honoured at an awards presentation next Saturday (February 20), writes Jason Marshall.

The youngsters, all of whom are hard-working members of the Escape Youth Cafe in Havelock Street, will receive certificates in recognition of their efforts throughout 2015.

Some of the Escape kids have also completed Saltire Awards, a national initiative which acknowledges the commitment of young volunteers, and Dynamic Youth Awards, which recognise the achievements of young peopleaged over ten – and these will also be presented on the day.

Escape manager Sian Snowdon said: “As an organisation we feel it’s hugely important to acknowledge the efforts of our young people through our own awards.”

The awards will be handed out at approximately 11.30amby Escape chair, Councillor Stuart Marshall.

Escape is also holding a fund-raising coffee morning to coincide with the presentations, and townsfolk are welcome to attend between 10am and noon.

There will be all the usual stalls and a raffle. Admission is £1.50 (children 50p/under-fives free). Baking donations will be gratefully received
and can be handed in next Friday night or on the morn-
ing of the event before10am.
