Local householders are being urged to take advantage of a closing offer of free loft and cavity wall insulation that can help them save hundreds of pounds on heating bills.
Property owners and private tenants are entitled to the no-cost energy saving measures under the Scottish Borders Council Free Insulation Offer, delivered through the Energy Saving Scotland advice centre, with loft insulation able to reduce energy costs by up to £175 and wall insulation by up to £135.
Houses in certain areas of the Borders have received free insulation during the last two years, with similar campaigns proving a success in Galashiels and Peebles.
The council is urging private households in Hawick to call the Energy Saving Scotland advice centre now to avoid missing out, with funding being used up and allocated on a first come, first served basis.
Aside from being a homeowner or private tenant there are no other criteria to meet – the only condition is that the property can take the insulation.
Householders can book a free no-obligation survey by calling the Home Energy Scotland Hotline free on 0800 512 012 or by texting ‘WARM’ to 81025 to register for a call back.
If insulation isn’t the right option for a household, there’s also free impartial advice on other grants and offers that could help instead.
The offer is just part of a range of services and support available to Hawick householders, which will be showcased at the Borders Interactive Gathering (BIG) event in Hawick Town Hall on May 17 from 11am-6pm.
Lots of other public services will also be exhibiting, performing and offering information and advice on benefits, pensions, support groups, volunteering opportunities, learning a new skill such as computing, photography, developing their existing knowledge further, improving their relaxation and free time activities, healthier living opportunities etc.
