FIRECREWS used special hydraulic gear to free a Hawick woman from the wreckage of her crashed car near Selkirk on Wednesday morning.

The 49-year-old driver, who has not been named, was taken to the Borders General Hospital with what was believed to be minor spinal injuries.

She was trapped after her vehicle left the A699 Selkirk to St Boswells road close to the entrance to the Gala Rig race course. The crash happened around 9am and fire teams from Selkirk and Galashiels together with paramedics eased her from the damaged car shortly before 10am

She had been driving towards St Boswells when her Renault Clio left the road and went into a field.

Police say no other vehicle was involved in the crash.
