A woman who drove when over twice the alcohol limit was fined £200 and banned from driving for 16 months.
Forty-three-year-old Wendy Ker, of Longcroft Crescent, admitted driving a car in Beaconsfield Terrace on March 17 with a breath/alcohol reading of 78 mcgs – the legal limit being 35.
Solicitor Matt Patrick, defending, told Jedburgh Sheriff Court his client had been on a short journey of less than a mile to pick up some groceries when she was stopped by police. He said Ker’s drinking had increased due to stress, and she was taking steps to deal with matters.
He also said Ker, a part-time nursing auxilliary, had no previous convictions and was deeply embarrassed to find herself in court.
Sheriff Donald Corke told Ker: “There are obvious dangers with this kind of offending, and the reading is high, but I note you are taking steps to deal with your problems.”
