Police are investigating a deliberate attack on a horse earlier this week.
The incident happened between Monday and Tuesday, July 28-29, in a field near Troweknowes Farm, and the animal suffered two large cuts to its legs, which required veterinary treatment.
Inspector Carol Wood told the Hawick News: “These injuries were not sustained accidentally and this incident is being treated as a deliberate act of cruelty.
“Anyone who remembers seeing any suspicious activity around the Troweknowes Farm area between Monday and Tuesday is asked to contact police immediately.
“Given the fairly remote location of the field, those responsible most likely travelled by vehicle and we would also urge anyone with information to get in touch.”
Anyone who can help with enquiries should contact Police Scotland on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
