Police are appealing for witnesses following a metal theft.

The incident happened around 3.30am on Friday at the Town Hall on the High Street.

Two people were seen climbing on the roof and fled after police responded to the scene.

Inspection of the roof revealed that a large quantity of lead flashing had been stolen, resulting in significant damage.

The suspects are described as white and in their late teens or early twenties. One was wearing a light-coloured hooded top and tracksuit bottoms, while the other was wearing a dark hooded top with yellow writing on the back.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Local officers are conducting various enquiries in the area to identify the suspects.

“Anyone who remembers seeing any suspicious activity in or around the Town Hall in the early hours of Friday morning is asked to contact police immediately.

“Similarly, members of the public with any other information relevant to this enquiry are also asked to get in touch.”
