Assaulting his former partner and behaving in a threatening or abusive manner resulted in Edward McGarrigle being sentenced to a Community Payback Order with 60 hours of unpaid work to be completed within six months.

The 32-year-old, of Willowford Road, Nitshill, Glasgow, admitted shouting and swearing in Wilson Drive, Hawick, on June 3, and assaulting his former partner by pushing her repeatedly, whereby she fell to the ground.

Prosecutor Tessa Bradley told Selkirk Sheriff Court the offences followed a “heated argument”.

McGarrigle was also fined £240 after he admitted failing to comply with a bail condition not to contact his former partner or her sister.

Defence solicitor Heather Stewart said her client was “going through a difficult time in his personal life” when he committed the offences.
