Community Council gets latest drug stats

A recent police operation resulted in a man who was on his way to the town being stopped with £9,000 of herbal cannabis.

The man was arrested as part of Operation Archerfish and a report was sent tot he procurator fiscal.

The large scale initiative was carried out at various locations in the Borders in December and was aimed at tackling substanse misuse.

Three property raids were carried out with one positive result.

At their January meeting, Hawick Community Councillors were told that police carried out 29 stop and searches in the town’s Hawick and Hermitage ward in December compared to 27 in October and 25 in November.

The December searches resulted in nine recoveries of alcohol from under-age drinkers and one drugs seizure.

And during the same month in the Hawick and Denholm ward police officers carried out 2 stiop and searches which both resulted in zero recoveries.

Police carried out 9 roadchecks in December with one person being issued with a fixed for using a mobile phone while driving.
