Crime solvency rate on increase

POLICE have revealed 40 per cent of the crimes committed in Hawick during January were theft related.

In total there were 562 reported incidents from the town, 57 of which were crimes.

This is down by nine per cent from the same period last year.

Of these reported crimes, 23 were related to theft and dishonesty, 17 were acts of vandalism and eight were a misuse of drugs.

But solvency is still on the rise, with 32 of the 57 crimes committed being solved; an eight per cent increase on last year.
