MINTO Place couple David and Irene Mowitt were the toast of their friends and family on Saturday in celebration of their ruby wedding, writes Sarah Williamson.
The pair enjoyed a party at tWeensland Function Suite to mark the special occasion, 40 years after they wed.
Having met in Pringle’s when sample room worker David was 18, and mender Irene (nee Maltman) was 20, the mill employees tied the knot at Trinity Church on February 12, 1972, witnessed by around 100 guests. They held their reception at the Victoria Hotel.
They set up home in Minto Place where they remain today, and their family grew with the arrival of Pauline and Graeme.
When asked for the secret to a long marriage, Irene said: “You have to work at a marriage, it is all about give and take.”
