URGENT action is needed to repair the Trinity steps, writes Gavin Gibbon.
That was the call this week from local councillor George Turnbull.
The steps, which connect Weensland Road to Trinity Street, were subject to £1,000 worth of improvements only last year.
But Councillor Turnbull described it as “money wasted” as the work was a “patch up”. And, as a result, the bill was cut by half.
Following a visit to the steps on Monday, he said it is clear that the work needs done again.
“I was disappointed to say the least to see the sorry state they were in,” he said.
“Broken glass, general litter, and steps that are moving and pointing that is badly needed.”
And Mr Turnbull said now would have been the best time to carry out the repair work.
He explained: “With the school holidays on at present what a golden opportunity this would have been to do a proper repair on these very busy steps.”
However, he has promised to raise the matter at the area committee meeting next month and is looking for support to get the work done.
He added: “I certainly hope that my fellow Hawick councillors will support me and approve works to be carried out for a quality repair that will be value for money.”
