Community Council terms debated

Hawick Community Council is set to debate changes to its constitution which would double the term served by members.

Currently councillors serve a two year term but this is due to be increased to four years if members back the plan on Monday night.

Speaking to the Hawick News this week, council chairperson Marion Short said: “We are due to discuss a change to the constitution which would see the terms of office double to four years. It is felt that community councillors are only just getting involved and getting the hang of things then it is all up in the air again.”

Hawick Community Council meets on Monday night the Lesser Town Hall at 7pm. Members of the public are welcome to attend and to take part in the Public Forum and Town Issues debate.
