The first Camera Club meeting of 2015 got under way last Thursday with keen local cyclists Colin and Pam Paxton giving an illustrated talk about their cycling adventure from John O’Groats to Land’s End in August 2011.
The advance planning for the choice of route and overnight accommodation took several months to arrange, while the trip itself was to take ten days during their fortnight’s summer holidays. As it happened, August turned out to be a wet month, and as their photographs showed, they experienced almost winter weather conditions for the majority of the journey.
They endured many rain soakings and saddle-sore injuries from the constant daily pedaling, but managed to overcome all that the elements could throw at them, succeeding in their quest and completing the trip within ten days. Colin and Pam stated that their abiding memories of the tour are of the overwhelming generosity of friendly people and fellow cyclists they met along the way. In his vote of thanks, Bert Lancaster congratulated the pair on their success and for presenting their inspirational tale to members.
The meeting on Thursday will be a competition entitled ‘Reflection’ and will be judged by Lesley Fraser.
