A DARING calendar featuring well-known Hawick men is being produced in a bid to raise money for the Christmas lights.
The calendar is going to be called "Danger - Hawick Men at Work" and will show local townsmen of all ages baring all — which certainly promises to light up the town this Christmas.
Appeal Committee member Zandra Elliot explained: "The town got a great lift when the bright-eyed daughters at the Border Club produced their calendar a couple of years ago, and I'm delighted to see some of our community-minded honest men take up this challenge.
She went on: "The calendar will be an excellent stocking filler, and it's a bit of fun for everyone, but with a serious purpose."
The Christmas Lights Appeal Committee, a sub-committee of Hawick Community Council, is undertaking the initiative as part of this year's fund-raising efforts — which are hoped to raise 10,000 in order to extend last year's permanent fixings beyond the High Street.
Local photographer Derek Lunn has volunteered to shoot the calendar, and all proceeds from the sales will go into the Christmas Lights Appeal.
Although the 'News' understands that the calendar is well under-way, Mrs Elliot would not reveal any details, only adding: "At the moment, the names, unlike the bodies, must remain under wraps."
