A LOCAL butcher has tasted success in a prestigious national competition, writes Rhalou
Allerhand.

High Street firm Robert Pringle was awarded a gold star for
its premier beef burgers at the Scottish Beefburger Championships, which take place every two years at the Scottish Federation of Meat Traders Association trade fair in Perth.

The family-run shop has been serving Teries since 1902, but only joined the federation two years ago. Fourth generation butcher James Pringle told the Hawick News: “I’m delighted. It’s good to have a range of products that are award-winning; it tells the public you’re doing a good job and have a good variety.”

The store also took home two silver awards in the premium sausage category.

James commented: “To win three awards in front of hundreds of people was a real thrill.”

He credits traditional methods for the firm’s winning streak. “We have family recipes and seasonings that go back generations,” he said. “We think the older recipes are definitely the best.”

Earlier in the year, Pringle picked up bronze in the World Scotch Pie Championships and came second in the South East Scotland Sliced Sausage Championships last October.

The certificates can be viewed in the shop window, where they are proudly displayed for all to see.

James added: “We’re really pleased. Some butchers have lots of shops, but we’ve just got me and Derek and an assistant
competing against the big boys in the industry.”
