Bomb scare yachtsman undeterred

1974 DESPITE a bomb scare when his yacht, Great Britain II, arrived at Sydney, Hawick sailor Chay Blyth has now taken the lead in the round-the-world race organised by a brewery firm.

1984 WITH the reopening of the Tower Garage, parking on High Street need no longer be a problem for motorists. Vehicles can be left at the Tower during daytime for 20p an hour, with special rates available for a regular, reserved space.

1994 THE former ice cream shop at Tower Knowe is to be converted into a taxi office and waiting room, initially for a one-year trial. The application by Mrs Dorothy Wilson was approved by 8 votes to 3 by the Region Planning Committee, despite a recommendation that it be refused because of potential parking and traffic problems.
