The Hawick Rugby Memories Club kicked off the new season by celebrating the many roles played by women in the history of the Greens.

Isobel Cunningham, Elizabeth Stanger and Joyce Welsh shared their memories, recalling the club’s legendary tea ladies, the organisers of the supporters’ club, female committee members, and what it was like to be a player’s wife, mother or granny, as well as their knowledgable support from the touchline.

The next meeting, which will be held in the Mansfield Park clubrooms on Thursday, October 1, at 2.30pm, will focus on the 1987 Rugby World Cup in the company of
former Scotland star Finlay Calder.
