HUNDREDS of pounds generated by a local man’s series of fund-raising events will make a “massive difference” to his two chosen charities.
Brian Ford raised almost £700 for Help For Homeless Veterans and donated further funds to The Parkinson’s Society by staging a coffee morning and a collection at Hawick’s rugby sevens, as well as a sponsored coast-to-coast cycle of more than 150 miles from Seascale in Cumbria to Whitby in North Yorkshire.
The £695 donated to the Veterans charity will go towards helping ex-soldiers who have fallen on hard times.
“It will make a massive difference to us because we’re only a newly-registered charity,” said Ell Mackay, director of Help For Homeless Veterans. “We’re finding so many guys on the street at the moment. We look at getting guys off the street and into safe accommodation.
“It will go towards counselling and accommodation costs and, for the guys who have homes, rent.
“We were truly honoured that Brian went to such lengths for us and can not thank them enough for everything that they have done.”
