The Hawick Walking Weekend has been an annual event since 2011 and for this year it starts on Friday, July 10 and finishes on the Sunday.

There is a total of seven walks over the three days and the first one on Friday takes in the Duchess’s Drive at Bowhill, which is sponsored by Telfords Coaches. The other walk that day is from Selkirk to Hawick along the Border’s Abbey Way. Transport is provided out to both these walks. On Saturday there is the Meikledale Walk sponsored by the 50+ group/Hawick Harlequins, the other walk being the Mosspaul Circular sponsored by the Tuesday Walkers.

There is also an extra special local interest walk laid on that day which goes around the ‘Hills of Home’ (see the ‘Get Outdoors’ column by Robin Mason). On Sunday the walks are to ‘The Vales’ and Cavers Circular both of which start and finish at the Old Parish Church Hall.

The entertainment this year has been organised by Bernie Armstrong who has arranged Hawick Sings in the Burns Club on Friday evening starting at 7.30. For further information visit www.hawickwalkingweekend.co.uk or pick up a brochure at Visit Scotland in Tower Mill.
